Vintage Spring Hat Girls

These little lovelies are vintage thimble style “doll heads”. Most are by Avon, but one or two are just ceramic minis. These were in my Etsy shop, but have sold. I love playing with all the photos I took of them. Some of these faces may end up in collages!

A New “Little” Project

hello. I hope you are well. Like we all are doing now, I am staying in even more (I already work from home and am a homebody in general) than usual. So, I’ve been cleaning out some old boxes and areas in my house, and I discovered that I have an abundance of small objects. I’ve always liked miniatures, but didn’t realize I have collected a ton of tiny things along the way in my 50+ years. It’s a half century’s worth of random stuff! I’m going to feature a few of these objects each day for your (and my) enjoyment! This is just an art project for fun and entertainment! I’m calling the project “Little Zinnia” and giving it a page within this site.

Frost and Fog

“I leant upon a coppice gate
      When Frost was spectre-grey,
And Winter’s dregs made desolate
      The weakening eye of day.
The tangled bine-stems scored the sky
      Like strings of broken lyres,
And all mankind that haunted nigh
      Had sought their household fires.”
From The Darkling Thrush by  Thomas Hardy

Infinity

At a recent visit to the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh I was happy to find this installation. They had this as a part of an exhibit a couple of years ago that was all about light and color. The docent told me this particular piece was so popular that they bought it to have as part of the permanent collection at the NCMA. It is so fun!
It is called “Light of Life” by Yayoi Kusama.

Goodbye Sweet Girl

Because she shares my studio space, I tend write a lot about my bunny on this site. Now though, I want to take a few minutes to focus on this sweet girl. Cameo came to us from Tennessee in 2002. She was one of a large litter of pups. While we were visiting a farm where she was born, she attached herself to my husband right away. All the rest of the litter was running around all over the place, but she kept close to him. So, we brought her home.

She passed away this past week at home with us. We cared for her until she crossed the “rainbow bridge”. While my heart is sad from the loss, I have to find comfort in the way her life was – long and good. She was almost 18. She traveled with us quite a bit, enjoying car trips, hikes and even loved the ocean. She was happy and had a full life. We were blessed to have known her. RIP sweet Cameo. You will be missed.

Thanksgiving

I hope you had a good Thanksgiving. The day here was nice. My day felt full of warm colors, love and light. I feel so grateful.

The glass pumpkins are from the Starworks Studios near Asheboro, NC. I went there a few years ago and got them on my birthday. I love getting them out for display during this time of year.
